Starting from April 1, 2026, Uzbekistan has introduced a Tax Free system for foreign tourists. Travelers can now claim a VAT refund when leaving the country through international airports. The system is available in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Fergana and Urgench, making it accessible for most visitors. Tax Free allows travelers to reclaim VAT on goods purchased in Uzbekistan and exported out of the country. This aligns Uzbekistan with global travel standards.
The refund depends on the payout method. Up to 90% of VAT can be returned to a bank card. Cash refunds are also available, usually around 85% due to service fees. The minimum purchase amount is 300,000 UZS. Goods must be unused and exported.
After purchase, receipts with QR codes must be registered via the Soliq mobile app. At the airport before departure, travelers should visit the Tax Free counter and present their goods, receipt, passport and boarding pass. Goods may be inspected.
Once approved, the refund is issued either in cash or transferred to a bank card. Card refunds are typically processed within a few business days.
Not all stores participate in the system. Refund requests can be submitted within three months.
This system helps travelers reduce expenses, especially when buying local products such as textiles and souvenirs.
If you are planning your trip, it is useful to compare accommodation options in advance.
